Rising Austin blues star Jackie Venson already has had a few high-profile opportunities, including some choice opening slots in 2014 after winning the Modern Southern Music contest and a 2016 guest appearance on “Late Night With Stephen Colbert” backing Anderson Paak and Mac Miller.
Now comes more good news for the 27-year-old Berklee College of Music grad. Austin blues-rock guitar great Gary Clark Jr. has booked Venson for nine dates this summer and fall on his national tour, with more apparently to be announced.

The shows will help set up “Transcends,” a new EP due out in November. It comes on the heels of a live album recorded last year at the now-defunct Strange Brew in South Austin. Venson is touring Europe in the latter half of this month but will be back in action locally on July 13 when she plays KGSR’s “Unplugged at the Grove” series at Shady Grove.
